1st International Accordion Competition “Sarajevo 2006” which took place in Sarajevo from 2nd to 6th of November 2006 was, according to all statements, successfully organized. It is, principally, the evaluation of all the jury members that were consisted of the most eminent experts and pedagogues of classic accordion in Europe, and the competitors themselves.

The very same opinion was shared by a large number of visitors, fans of classic accordion and classical music as well. The competition was taking place at the Music Academy in Sarajevo and Secondary School of Music in Sarajevo. The concerts were taking place in Bosniak Institute which is, in its representative outlook of one of the most beautiful cultural monuments in Sarajevo, located near Gazi Husrev – bey's Hammam. The competition was officially opened by the Minister of Sport and Culture of Sarajevo Canton, Mr.Ivica Šarić who pointed out that this International Accordion Competition will make a significant contribution to overall culture of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Sarajevo Arts Agency and Jeunesse Musicales in Sarajevo were the organizers of the competition and they did their best that everything in terms of the competition should go smoothly. But, since this manifestation was in fact youth gathering from 12 European countries, the organizer tended to make their staying in Sarajevo comfortable and pleasant, but not only to deal with official parts of the programme. According to the competitors, they were all pleasantly surprised at the lukewarm reception and hospitality given by the organizer and the citizens of Sarajevo.

Besides the familiarizing with the atmosphere of Sarajevo and its cultural and historic heritage, it is convenient to mention the last evening of the competition spent in the representative restaurant “Park prinčeva” (Prince’s Park) with a beautiful view of Sarajevo. It was a real friendship of young competitors, jury members and guests in a cosy atmosphere and all this was accompanied by songs and music.

Within the scope of the Accordion Festival, besides the competition itself, there was a seminar for accordion teachers and pedagogues which was conducted by one of the leading experts from this very field, Mr. Kimmo Mattila (Finland).

The seminar participants received certificate of participation that will be of great use in their further specialized trainings.

In addition to the competition there were some highly interesting concerts which were taking place in Bosniak Institute and the Academy of Music in Sarajevo. There was a concert of Mr. Alexandar Poeluev (Russia) who amazed the crowded audience in the hall of Bosniak Institute. In the same place, there was the winners’ concert where the audience was presented with a wealth of talent and a variety of music coming from hard work. On that very occasion, the representatives of the Ministry of Sport and Culture of Sarajevo Canton as well as the organizer proposed a vote of thanks to the participants of the competition and jury members, especially to Ms. Alma Flamersberger who was the main initiator and the cornerstone of the whole project in terms of its realisation.

In the hall of Music Academy on the occasion of official opening of the competition, there was a concert of Boris Lenko (Slovakia) and Alma Flamersberger (Bosnia and Herzegovina) who proved to be on the world’s top when it comes to accordion interpretation.

There was a very interesting jazz concert and the players were Renzo Ruggieri – accordion (Italy), Pavol Bodnar – piano (Slovakia) and Tomas Baros – double bass (Czech republic).

Renzo Ruggieri showed with his friends that classic accordion can be a “universal” instrument, applied both in classical music with symphony orchestras and jazz music.
Highly successful realisation of the 1st Classical Accordion Competition was the best check of the objective needs for this kind of manifestations in Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as an excellent test for organizing abilities of Sarajevo Arts Agency and Jeunesse Musicales in Sarajevo in terms of  forthcoming competitions.
